Having fun with Vine for a quick trailer for the Love in a Hopeless Place Collection

Well, just for a moment of light relief we decided to use some of our photos of the individual titles in the Love in a Hopeless Place Collection to create a Vine video book trailer.

Vine is to video what Twitter is to short messages – we are allowed just over 6 seconds of recording time in total so VERY short and sharp visuals only. Once created, you can post the video on Twitter, your website, blog etc.

The recording is done via the video button on a smart phone – I used an iPhone. Vine allows you to make split-second shots and then links them all together in a continuous loop. At the moment Vine does not allow any editing after recording – so you have to get it right first time! Also, there is no audio editing – so you have to make sure that whatever is playing in the background makes sense for your visuals.

It’s very important to plan out in advance what you are going to include – the finished article is so short that every split second counts.

In this video we used images of the 5 covers of the titles in the book collection, along with a few images of the collection cover on an e-reader and also as a printed book, as well as an additional image to indicate the book was available on Amazon. We lined all the shots up on the computer in order and filmed each for a split second. Everything looked great – the Vine video looped round and played on and on and the images made sense. Then we watched with the sound up – it was horrendous, everything from paper shuffling to computer keys to a kettle boiling and music from a distant TV show. A veritable cacophony. The snippet of music though, did not sound so bad. So, we decided to play We Found Love in a Hopeless Place by Rhianna on the CD player whilst we recorded the shots. Obviously it is not a nice smooth audio track – it gets broken up each time we change video clip – but we thought it was better than completely random background noise.

Unsurprisingly, the whole video took a whole morning to complete – getting all the photos for the clips in a similar format, sorting out the sound…. to say nothing of the number of times we recorded it before we managed to fit the whole lot in.

The result… well it’s obviously not going to win any Oscars – but for a quick snap of what the book is about it does serve a purpose. What do you think?

To hear the sound click on the top left of the video on the speaker symbol (you may want to switch it off after a short period!). Click the video to stop and start it.

New audiobook available from Audible, Amazon and iTunes – The Gentleman and The Rogue

Great news: our 9.5 hour finished audiobook for the period romance – The Gentleman and The Rogue – by Bonnie Dee and Summer Devon, has been approved by ACX and can be purchased online at a number of locations.

The Gentleman And The Rogue Audiobook Artwork

We recorded the story over a couple of weeks at the end of April – and what a challenge for our narrator Jasper de Montfort! Keeping track of 18 different voices across an 85000 word novel was no mean feat. There was, in addition, an interesting dimension to this book  – as it follows a passionate romance between a wealthy baronet and his valet.  As usual, Jasper dealt with their relationship and (somewhat erotic!)  interactions with compassion and tenderness and we were delighted with the end result.

This is a fast moving historical adventure set in the early 19th century.  The story captures the flavour of England at a time when social divides dictated protocols and etiquette. The authors portray all the characters and action within a credible ‘upstairs-downstairs’ environment.  Although a love story, The Gentleman and The Rogue is full of action and suspense as Sir Alan Watleigh and the incorrigible cockney, Jem, rescue the orphaned daughter of one of his regiment from the clutches of an evil surgeon.

Smiles all round at Gallo-Romano Media

We received a lovely email today from the author of “101 Tips on How To Be A Bouncer” – Mr Darren Lee.  He has now received his finished audiobook – narrated by our very own Oscar Sparrow and seems very pleased with the result.

Not being shy about blowing our own trumpet… we our proud to share his testimonial with you:

101 How To be a Bouncer audiobook cover (1)“When I first decided to seek auditions for my book, 101 Tips on How to Be a Bouncer: Techniques to Handle Situations Without Violence, into an audiobook I really had no idea what to expect. I knew I wanted a British accent which was refined, yet had a bit of an edge. Some of the auditions missed the point completely and others sounded like they had been recorded in a garbage can outside a nightclub. I had just about given up entirely when along came Oscar Sparrow of Gallo-Romano Media with a short audition piece that seemed to perfectly duplicate what I wanted, plus adding a certain quality to his product which only comes from years of experience and dedication. In short, to say I am happy with the audiobook is an understatement. For Oscar, his work isn’t just a churn and burn to make a quick buck. He is VERY good at what he does, it certainly shows in his work and I would have no hesitation recommending him to prospective audiobook producers in the future!”

Thanks Darren! Needless to say… we are all walking round with big grins on our faces.

The Gentleman And The Rogue – Recording The Audiobook Right Now

The Gentleman and The RogueWe are in the process of recording an historical romance with a twist!  The Gentleman and The Rogue by Bonnie Dee and Summer Devon is period erotic romance and our first m/m gay audiobook.

With over 670 ratings on Goodreads and 5 star ratings on Amazon we knew we were in for an interesting story and we were not disappointed. It is a cracking mystery adventure with an evil villain, a noble quest, forbidden love, passion and romance all developed in a fast moving plot.

The recording has been a challenge as the authors requested that the Gentleman should have an upper class accent and the Rogue, as a young cockney sparrow should sound as if he comes from a lower class London background.  This seemed very reasonable and the authors loved the audition we sent them.

When we read through the book before starting the recording we then discovered that there are actually 15 other characters plus the narrator  – a young girl, servants, footmen, landlords, a doctor and a magistrate to name a few!  We have had a lot of fun placing all their accents and characters – and even more fun keeping track of them so that when they appear at different times in the book they are consistent.  All in a day’s work for narrators and editors!

The main audio is now almost complete.  Then it’s over to the editor for processing and checking.  This audiobook will probably last over 9 hours when it’s complete so it takes many hours of painstaking work to edit it all together, get rid of any strange noises (tummy rumbles before lunch and ‘oinks’ after!) as well as final polishing to blend it all together.

If you need to read it before the audiobook is out (end of May 2013) you can find it by clicking here: The Gentleman And The Rogue on Amazon Worldwide  (NB. Explicit erotic content).

New Audiobook Bouncing Along Nicely…

We are pleased to announce that we recently fought off the competition and snatched the contract to create a most unusual audiobook for Mr Darren Lee.

He works in the security sector and is a successful trainer. He has written a great manual for nightclub workers and security managers which is available on Kindle.  Having an audiobook would provide another medium to deliver his message and reinforce his training program.

The author felt that  British English would suit the subject – in particular a London accent with a bit of an edge.  Who better than our Oscar Sparrow to audition for this role?  Darren liked Oscar’s chatty, informative style and common touch and awarded us the contract to record and produce his audiobook.  We have recorded the text – it is now in final polish and production phase and we expect it to be finished by the end of April.
